She believed this fear came from when she was little. Her father would take her to the deep end of the pool and her mother would become upset. Although Joan was afarid to get her face wet, she did enjoy water skiing. The boat driver would know that if she fell while skiing he had to turn around and pick her up immediately. Parenting: Because of Joan's fear to get her face wet, she made sure all her children learned how to swim and enjoy the water. She started her children in swim lessons as soon as they were old enough (or at the time tall enough). All 4 of her children became excellent swimmers and were on the Woodland swim team during the 1960's. Image Gallery
