[Note: This string of marriages seems to originate in Source:Abbot, Abiel. Genealogical Register of the Descendants of George Abbot, of Andover (pub. 1847), was copied into Bond (pub. 1855) and found its way nearly verbatim here. No record of the third marriage is found. Capt. Josiah Bowers m. (1) Abigail Thompson who d. 1771, m. (2) Maria Trowbridge who d. 1787, and he d. 1794, age 75 (born about 1719). No third marriage is shown for him in History of Billerica. Westford VRs don't show any deaths of Jonas or Elizabeth Pollard, but do show a James Pollard, whose first wife Abigail Chamberlin d. 1774, in time to be interested in marrying in 1775, and who himself d. 1781, so if he had a widow...]

  3.   James Pollard who died at Westford in 1781 did leave a will which names wife Elizabeth. James Pollard did not have children. So, it is at least possible that Elizabeth Abbott married James Pollard. There is a transcription for a marriage record at Hollis for "Captain Jonas Pollard" of Westford and Mrs. Elizabeth Abbott; the date of that marriage is 22 March 1775. Josiah Bowers who died in 1794 has a probate record, but no will, and there is not a widow in the probate record, but as a son was the administrator and if she was a late in life wife she would not likely be the administrator.
  4.   Middlesex Deed Vol. 110, p. 162 10 Nov 1690: Josiah Bowers of Billerica Gentleman for Love & affection I bear unto my Son Benjamin Bowers and £150 conveys several tracts including my Mansion House reserving the improvement of the whole to my own use during my natural life and the improvement of the westroom & Bedroom in the Dwelling House with the privilege of Washing and bakeing in the kitchen with a privilege in the Well & Cellar & the improvement of half of the Garden west of the House to my Wife Elizabeth Bower for her own personal Use. Signed by Josiah Bowers & Elizabeth Bowers. Acknowledged 15 Dec 1791 by Josiah Bowers.
  5. "Elizabeth Bowers of Westford ... widow" wrote her will at Westford 10 August 1802, filed 3 Sep 1802, proved 19 Oct 1802. Her will has bequests to the following persons: daughter Elizabeth Powers; daughter-in-law Lydia Abbott; granddaughter Betty Wright; Susa[n] daughter of son Samuel Abbott Deceased; grand Daughter Polly Boynton; Abigail Read; and the remainder of the estate divided among “all my children hereafter named” Benjamin Abbott, George Abbott, Joel Abbott, Jacob Abbott, Elizabeth Powers, and the children of daughter Polly Boynton. Joel Abbott to be executor.
Receipts of Elizabeth and Eleazar Wright, of Elizabeth and Sampson Powers, Polly and Abiel Boynton.
This supports that Elizabeth Abbott who was originally married to Benjamin Abbott did marry Josiah Bowers and establishes her death between 10 Aug and 3 Sep 1802. The will can be accessed through ancestry.com [or along the entire probate file 2269, for free, here.]
