"Elisha (Sanford), b. at Portsmouth 28 Dec. 1650; d. s.p. before 1691 (Register, vol. 56, p. 296). Like his brother William he was a merchant at Bridgetown, Barbados. A letter of Peleg Sanford to his brother William, dated at Newport 27 Jan. 1665/6, shows that at this time he was already in Barbados (Sanford Papers, op. Cit.). He had a bequest under the will of his uncle Samuel Hutchinson, dated 7 April 1667. A letter written by him at Barbados to Waitstill Winthrop at New London and dated 10 March 1671/2 is preserved in the Sanford Papers (p. 88). In 1676 he received one thousand acres in the Maine wilderness, in the town of Wells, from his step-father Major William Phillips (Austin, op. cit.)."
