9 Jul 1754: Appraisal of real estate of Mr Elisha How late of Sudbury Yeoman, set off to Hannah How the said Deceased's Widdow one full third, and the reamin[d]er or two thirds of the said Estate we have sett off to Samuel How the Administrator, on the said Estate; for in our opinion it will not accom[m]odate any more than one..., he paying unto his Brother Leavit How and Sarah How his Sister. Advances noted to eldest son John How, to Rebecca his Daughter the wife of Samuel Frost, to his Daughter Hannah the wife of Joseph Gibbs.

  3. Elisha is called an older brother by Nehemiah in a document dated 1714 in the father's probate. As Nehemiah is offering to purchase part of his father's estate, Nehemiah must be born before 1693, and Elisha is older. In a deed [Middlesex Deeds Vol. 16, p. 466) dated 3 Nov 1710, his father "Samuel How of Sudbury ... Carpenter Do of my own motion and free good Will ... to my Son Elisha How a parcell of land ... of 10 acres or there abouts with a Barn now Standing upon The Land being part of my lands ... where I now dwell in s'd Sudbury ... by me the said Sam'll How his Father or my wife Sarah How his Mother". This suggests Elisha was born by 1689 to be of legal age by 1710 and that 2nd wife Sarah (i.e., not 1st wife Martha) was his mother.
