    7 Feb 1912, p1 - FUNERAL OF FORMER RESIDENT THURSDAY. Mrs. Mathilda Banzhaf died in Oconto on Sunday - well known here. Mrs. Mathilda Banzhaf, widow of the late Henry Banzhaf, a former well known resident of Appleton and sister of J.E. Woehler, of this city, died on Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wesley Hume, in Oconto, at the age of 68 years, death being due to complication of diseases. The remains will arrive in Appleton on the 12:20 o'clock train, Thursday noon and will be taken directly to the Riverside chapel where the funeral will be conducted by the Eastern Star. Mrs. Banzhaf came to Appleton with her parents fifty years ago and lived here until about twenty years ago. Her husband was alderman for the sixth ward for several terms. Besides her brother, she is survived by two sons and one daughter.

    8 Feb 1912, p1 - The Funeral of Mrs. Banzhof today. Remains of former Appleton resident arrive here from Oconto. The funeral of Mrs. Mathilda Banzhof was held this afternoon from the chapel at Riverside cemetery and was in charge of the Eastern Star. The Oconto Enterprise, in speaking of the death of Mrs. Banzhof said Tuesday: Mrs. M. Banzhof passed away Sunday afternoon about four o'clock at the home of her daugher, Mrs. J.W. Hume, at the age of sixty seven years, four months and twenty-three days. Deceased was born in Germany July 11, 1854 and for about fifty years, had made her home in Wisconsin. She came to Appleton with her parents when but a girl, her father, the Rev. Woehler, being a German Reformed Missionery. Both her parents and her husband are buried in the Appleton Cemetery and her body will be interred by the side of her husband. The funeral will be held in that city Thursday. For the past twelve years, Mrs. Banzhof had made her home in this city and during this residence here had made many warm friends. She had been ailing for several years but a patient sufferer, bearing her afflictions with true Christian fortitude. She was a member of the Congregational Church at Appleton and a member of the Oconto Order of Eastern Star. Besides her daughter, Mrs. J.W. Humes of this city, two sons are left mourn her demise. The sons, Dr. E.J. Banzhof and B.H. Banzhof, both reside in New York and left Monday for this city. The latter is a lawyer and at present a member of the New York legislature. They are expected to arrive in this city tomorrow.
