  2. ↑ The intentions of his brother Calvin, published in Amesbury and Salisbury, resemble other intentions of an Eli B. Howard to Rebecca B. Dow in 1835. This may very well be this Eli. If so, he only appears in 1850 census, but no subsequent ones, and may have died by 1855. No death record has been located, nor any evidence connecting that Eli to these parents, so it remains a speculative theory.
  3. ↑ Allred, p. 146, shows the birthplace as Taunton. This is apparently a misreading of Paxton in the birth record.
