In his application for Civil War Pension from the state of Louisiana, Elbert Magee stated that he enlisted in the summer of 1862 as a Cavalryman in Company A, Wingfield's Battalion, "the third volunteer co. from Washington Parish, La." He claimed that he was wounded slightly in the right arm in a skirmish near Jackson, Mississippi, and that he was sick at home on furlough at the time of the war's end. His pension was rejected because he could not prove the furlough. He was resident of Sunny Hill [Washington Parish] at the time of his 1909 application.
