Edwin H. Matthews Rites Held Sunday. Funeral services for Edwin H. Matthews, 45, of S. Oliver street, who died early Saturday morning in the Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta, were held Sunday afternoon at four o'clock from the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home. Interment was in Elmhurst Cemetery. Officiating were Rev. Roland Walker and Rev. Lawrence Johnson. His death followed several months of declining health. A member of the Concord Methodist Church and a native and lifelong resident of the county, he was a stone cutter by occupation. Survivors in addition to his widow, Mrs. Guynell Childress Matthews include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Walter Matthews, a son, Donnie L. Matthews of the home, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Seagraves of Gainesville. Pallbearers were Thomas Harper, Omer harper, Roy Harper, David White, Walter Childress and George D. Smith. Members of the local Post of the American legion were honorary pallbearers.
