    Elder E. H. Carman, venerable pastor of the Advent Christian church, died at his home in Nooksack Friday night at the age of 76 years. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about two months ago and spent some time at the Sumas hospital. He had lived at Nooksack for thirty years. He was a veteran of the Civil war. One of the surviving relatives is Mrs. Art A. Alexander of Bellingham. The funeral was held this morning at the Advent Christian church, with the Rev. George E. Coprider officiating.

  3. 3.0 3.1 Edwin Carman enlisted at Beardstown, Illinois, on 26 Mar 1864 as a Private. He mustered into service on 28 Apr 1864 and mustered out of service on 11 Nov 1865. Another record indicated he was “Absent, without leave” on 11 Nov 1865. Illinois records indicated his residence was Beardstown in Cass Co., Illinois and that his age was 19 when he enlisted. The record also stated his height was 6 foot, hair was brown, eyes were gray, and that he was a farmer. He enlisted for a period of three years and mustered in at Springfield, Illinois, and was absent without leave since 11 Nov 1865.
