Died - Capt. Edward D. Warbass, at Friday Harbor, at midnight Monday, "the night before Christmas," his faithful nurse, Mr. Hutchinson, was with him. At the request of his niece, Mrs. A. W. Engle, Seattle, Mr. G. B. Driggs and Mr. O. H. Culver took charge of the funeral arrangement. The funeral service was held in Odd Fellow' hall Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Robert Irwin officiated. The choir, with Mrs. G. B. Driggs as accompanist, consisterd of Mrs. S. D. Martin, Mrs. Stevens of Portland, Dr. George S. Wright and Mr. J. P. Paine. The pall bearers were Mr. Charles McKay, Mr. C. Rosler, Mr. E. P. Bailer, Hon. John L. Blair, S. V. Boyce, and Mr. Andrew Newhall. Interment was in Valley cemetery.
Surviving are his niece, Mrs. Engle, a sister, Mrs. Glover, WI. Capt. Warbass was b. in Hamburg, Sussex county, NJ, Feb. 1, 1825, one of a family of eleven children. His paternal grandfather, Joseph Warbass, came to America from Germany with a brother in 1700. The brother settled in Mexico and Joseph settled in PA. His maternal grandfather Lieut. Armstrong, was an officer in the revolutionary army and a land owner in NJ. Capt. Warbass' father, John S. Warbass, was born in 1792 and died in 1847. His mother, whose maiden name was Margaret Armstrong, was born in 1795 and died in 1870.
