Edward Syrad was born on 13th April 1881 at Marylebone in Middlesex, in the inner western suburbs of London, son of a cab driver named Joshua Syrad and his wife Ann. The family had at least five children, and Edward appears to have been the youngest. The 1881 census finds Edward living with his parents, siblings and a nephew at 7 Munro Mews in Kensington. By 1885 the family was living at Adpar Street in Paddington, and Edward attended the local school at Campbell Street.
By 1891 the family had returned to the north Kensington area, living at 61 Wornington Road. By this time Edward was working as a gas works stoker.
On 7th August 1902 Edward married Alice Sarah Allen. They had probably known each other since childhood, as she had grown up living on Adpar Mews. In 1903 they had a son, Edward Albert, followed by another son in 1904. Sadly Edward Albert died in 1905, aged two. Shortly after his death Alice had a daughter.
Edward died in 1909 in the Fulham area of London. He was only 28 years old. Alice remarried just under three years later.

Baptised same day as siblings Ann Maria, Florence Kate, Frederick, and Alice Gertrude. This baptism has been linked to the Edward Syrad who married Alice Sarah Allen on the basis of their marriage certificate which says Edward's father was a cabman named Joshua Syrad, and the baptism is at the right time and not far from where Edward married (plus of course Syrad is a fairly unusual name).
