Ed was a businessman, owning three gas stations and a tire and battery business. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Although not involved in the church during most of his life, he supported his wife's efforts to raise their children in the faith. One of the happiest memories of his son, Harold, is when Ed accepted Christ two weeks prior to his death.
