[edit] WILL OF EDWARD HAMLINIn the name of God Amen, I, Edward Hamlin, of Middletown, in the County of Stratford, State of Connecticut in New England, being advanced in age, yet through the goodness of God to me am at this Present in health of Body & of sound mind & memory: yet Considering the mortality of my Body, do at my Decease, Commit my Body to the Earth, & my spirit to god who gave it, hoping for the pardon of my Sins through the Merits & Mediation of Jesus Christ—and and as to my Temporal Estate that God has been Pleased to Bestow upon me, I give and Dispose of in the following manner: First, to Edward Hamlin, my eldest son, I Give & Bequeath to him & to his heirs and assigns forever, one Piece of Land in my Homeiott, beginning at ye N. E. corner of a Piece of Land where his house stands & Runs west By a stone wall to the Brook, then a Parallel line with the south line of my Lott to the west end, viz.: All my Land that Lyes North of that Line, with all my Priveleges Standing on his Land, which I gave to him by Deed of Gift to him & his Heirs & assigns forever, He & his Heirs paying the one half of the Cost of Maintaining me & my wife During our Lives, and One Half of our Funeral Charges, & Suitable Monuments to be Erected over our graves after our Decease and to pay a Debt to one Capt. Miller, of Farmington, which I am Jointly Bound with him for; and my will is in case he or his Heirs shall neglect to pay the one half as above mentioned, and if my other heirs shall pay the same, then they are to have so much of the Land which I iven him as Two Judliceous Freeholders shall Judge Reasonable. Item. I give and Bequeath to my son, Giles Hamlin & my Daughter Phebe, the wife of Dan'l Alvard. to them and their Heirs and assigns forever, to be Divided between them as they may agree, all the Remainder of my Houselott, South of that I have now given to my son Edward, and what I had before given him by Deed of gift, they paying all my just Debts, excepting what I have ordered Edward to pay, & my will is, that they pay each of them one quarter part my and my wife's maintainance During our Lives; & one Quarter part of our Funeral Charges, & Suitable Monuments to be Erected; & after our Decease & in case they or either of them or their Heirs shall neglect to Pay their parts as above, and my other Heirs shall pay the same, then my will is, that they shall have so much Land out of his part that neglects to pay as Two Judicious Freeholders shall Judge Reasonable; and in consideration that this is my Last Will & Testament, I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this 15th Day of November, A.
