1 Edward Frisbie
b. prob, Virginia Colony, ca. 1621.
Settled in Branford, Conn., ca. 1644,
d, Branford, 5-10-1690.
Married, date of marriage and wife's name are unknown.
11 children as listed in the Genealogy
No record of Edward's birth exists, but he is believed to have been the child of Richard and Margaret (Emerson) Frisby who were married in the church of St, James Clerkenwell, London, on 11-18-1618, It is known that they had a child Mary born in Clerkenwell in Nov, 1619, and that they emigrated to Virginia Colony in Feb, 1620, arriving there in late May,
They are mentioned in the Virginia census of early 1625, then appear in the Clerkenwell records in London, when a child Ann was buried in Aug, 1625. Births and deaths of subsequent children appear in the Clerkenwell parish books up to December 1634, after which there is no further mention of Richard.
It is possible that Richard and his family joined the "Great Migration" of 1635 to New England, but there is no mention of him in the New England records.
The town of Branford was established in New Haven Colony in March 1644 by a party of settlers from Wethersfield in Connecticut Colony. Edward Frisbie first appears in the Branford Town Records in Dec, 1646, and he was then a land holder.
No record of Edward's marriage has ever been found. Both the 1926 and 1964 Genealogies assign three wives to him, but it is now known that this information is erroneous. It is possible that she was named Hannah, perhaps Hannah Culpepper, but this is pure conjecture and cannot be proved by existing records.
