Person:Edward Bushnell (3)

Many mistakenly think the Edward Bushnell mentioned in the will of William Beamsley was a son. Edward was actually William's stepson — Edward's mother Martha (Hallor) Bushnell was William's second wife, her first, and Edward's father, having been Edmund Bushnell of Horsham and Boston. William was married to his first wife Ann from about 1623 until after the birth of their last child Hannah in 1643. There is no evidence that this Edward ever married.

   "14. Edward (Bushnell), bapt. Horsham, co. Sussex, Eng. 10 Dec. 1629, probably came to New England with his parents in 1635, when about 6 years old. We know nothing further of him until we find him mentioned in the will of his step-father William Beamsley, dated 14 Sept. 1658 and next of 16 Nov. 1668, when Edward Bushnell and all his sisters and step-sisters together with their husbands, sold the homestead in Boston to Key Alsop. He was among those who did not sign the deed, perhaps because he had left Boston. Nothing further is known of him, unless he be that Edward [Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire actually refers to an Edmund Bushnell] Bushnell referred to in Dr. Alonzo Quint’s Historical Memoranda of the Ancient Town of Dover, (N.H), where he is reported in a tax list for the support of the minister as of date 22 Sept. 1659.
