Edmund Newman waas a Revolutionary soldier under George Washington. He joined the Masons in Virginia and belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Hardinsburg, Kentucky. He died August 11, 1850 in his 91st year and Mary Conquest (Wyatt) Newman, his wife, died July 26, 1854 in her 92nd year. They were buried in the Hawesville Cemetery in Hawesville, Kentucky.

Virginia soldier in the Revolution and an early settler in Hancock County, Kentucky, The official record at the Court House at Hawesville shows his Revolutionary services, recordded in Order Book No. 1, page 112.
