Edmond A. Burris died at his home in North Franklinton, Tuesday morning, August 20, at 8:50 o'clock with hear trouble, after a short illness. All that loving hands could do with the aid of the physicians was done to stay away the grim messenger, but all in vain, and gently, without a struggle, and with his devoted wife, who has been so faithful in all these days of doubt and hope, and with one son and one daughter who attended him constantly until the end came. "Uncle Ed" as he was affectionately called by all, had been in bad health for the past several months, but not confined to his bed until the last weeks. The deceased was born March 6th, 1865, was 70 years of age and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Burris, pioneer citizens of Washington Parish. He was married to Miss Ruth Bateman 47 years ago, to which union five children were born, with two surviving, Robt. H. Burris of Bogalusa and Mrs. Joe N. Magee Jr. of Franklinton, also one devoted sister, Mrs. D. M. Wadsworth of Bogalusa, and four grand-children, besides a host of other relatives. Mr. Burris was deputy-sheriff and jailer at the time of his death, having been connected with the Sheriff's office for many years, always faithful and untiring in his service, and had many friends who loved and admired him. He was a long time member of the Methodist Church and of the F and AM Lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the Baptist Church, with his pastor, Rev. Chas. E. McLean, officiating, assisted by Revs. Smith and Sweeney. Interment in Ellis Cemetary, with Masonic services at the grave.
