The year that Edith Emma was born, 1874, her family moved to Ford Co., IL. Her mother died shortly after the birth of John Henry, Dec. 24, 1878, and Edith and her baby brother were taken to Woodford Co. by the grandparents (Gulletts). The baby died the following summer and Edith remained until school age when her father brought her back to Ford Co.. She attended school in different districts where she could be boarded, spending the weekends with her father at his home. Her father remarried in 1882 to Anna Whorrell of Woodford Co. They had two sons, John Thomas and William Hendricks. About 1892 the family moved to a farm in Butler Co., KS. Edith began teaching school in Wellington, KS. After three years, she went back to Illinois and stayed with her Aunt Fanny who lived near the Union school west of Blackford. Taught school there for a year and then married O.B. Dobbins, Dec. 15, 1897.
