After both of their parents died of the flu in November 1918, Edith looked after Myrtle May and Ethel Theresa Webber until their grandfather Ernest Weber and his brother-in-law, Charles Ristow came from Ontario to pick them up. Edith accompanied them back to Renfrew County where they were raised by Ernest and his wife, Matilda. ^S4
