Facts and Events
Edgar's father Abraham was killed during the Civil War and the family knew nothing about where he was buried. His two sons, Floyd and Isaac, lived near the arsenic mines. The land was homesteaded and after Abraham's death, it was divided between the sons. Isaac's portion was later owned by the Poff's. Until recently, Floyd's son, William Vest, lived at the old home place. Floyd, being the strongest, physically, was kept home to farm, while Isaac was sent to school near Abingdon and was a teacher. His first school was in an old Ferguson house near Roscoe Willis' store. This was told by Wanda Vest, his daughter-in-law. Later the one-room school was built, known as the Vest school and probably named for its first teacher, Isaac Vest; better known as "Little Ike". References
