Case 3717: Ebenezer Butterfield 1796.
Will of "Ebenezer Butterfield of Dunstable ... yeoman", dated 5 Apr 1784, proved 21 Apr 1796, names wife Mary; eldest son Ebenezer Butterfield; sons Leonard, samuel, Jonas, Jesse, Philip; three daughters Sarah Cumings, Mary Woods, and Rachel Welor[?]. Philip to be sole Executor. 21 Apr 1797 ["ninety Seven", ??]: Bond of Philip Butterfield of Dunstable to execute will of Ebenezer Butterfield of Dunstable.
- ↑ Many sources give a death date of 1795, in Dunstable, for Ebenezer, but none seem to explain how it is known. Clearly he died before 21 Apr 1796 when his will was proved. Find A Grave has no tombstone, but some certificate (Annotated: "Source Mr Munson, - No Record in Me Host. Soc.") showing birth in 1706, death in 1795, but residence in Farmington, ME. But it was the son who lived in Farmington, from about 1790 until his death in 1821. Ignoring the shaky provenance, if true, it would suggest Ebenezer did not die in Dunstable?
- ↑ The published Chelmsford VRs give Ebenezer's birth very clearly as 13 Jul 1707. The Butterfields of Middlesex gives it as 13 Jul 1706, apparently a typo, and this gets repeated by several secondary sources. Surrounding siblings are born 1704 and 1709.
