His Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) Burial Registration notes "Previously unofficially reported Died of Wounds Whilst Prisoner of War, now for official purposes presumed to have Died of Wounds at Kriegsgefangenen Stamnlager Wahn"
Since he died in Wahn, Germany, Douglas may have been a "Prisoner of Respite" (held within 30 KM of the front-lines, and treated badly) at the time of his death. A New York Times article in the May 12, 1918 edition entitled "GERMAN CRUELTIES TO WAR PRISONERS; Official British Document Shows Captives Do Military Work Under Guns--Ill-Fed and Ill-Treated" gives more information on this subject.

Although military records indicate he died as PoW in Wahn camp, his death occured in Valenciennes, on December 18, 1916, as written in the decease's registers of the town of Valenciennes (France,) where he is buried. Valenciennes was then occupied territory by German troops, 300km from Wahn. Was he brought back, or if the date of casualty is actually December 17, perhaps he is not gone in this camp?

Although written in wartime, municipal records have been kept up to date, the date of death and the date of writing of the act are strictly observed; this is the original that is online, not a copy.
