Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 3, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
Irby, Douglas [Douglass], entered service 1775 in Virginia; granted Pension 1820 in Botetourt County, Virginia, age 69 when wife age 53 & children: Elizabeth age 25, Sally age 22 & Polly age 21 resided with him; occupation carpenter; married Hannah Candleer, Campbell County, Virginia, who died abt. 1833; they had 7 children; soldier died 5/15/1843 in Roanoke County, Virginia leaving children: Mary (wife of Pliny H. Berry of Washington County, Tennessee), Tabitha (wife of John T. Cowan), & Elizabeth; daughter Mary Berry made affidavit in 1856 age 53 resided in Jonesboro, Washington County, Tennessee, that only surviving children of soldier were then herself, Elizabeth (never married, resided in Lee County, Virginia) & Tabitha Cowan (widow, resided in Russell County, Virginia).
