    Browne, --- [Dorothy, S.dup.], d. Isaac, [born] Nov. 5, 1669.

  2. The records about Dorothy are a little confused. There are two birth records, one on 5 Nov 1669, and another on 7 Apr 1672. There is a death record for an unnamed child of Isaac Brown on 14 Apr 1672, and a death record for Dorothy, d/o Isaac, on 23 Dec 1689. Although it seems like the unnamed death record might apply to the first Dorothy, it probably has some error in the actual date if so. The actual record is found in Newbury VRsS1, p. 2:556: "Browne, ---, ch. Isac, Apr. 14, 1672".

That Mary's birth in 1673 follows very close on the birth of Dorothy in 1672, a situation that often happened when the first child died as an infant. This suggests one other possibility, that the unnamed death record actually does apply to the second Dorothy, indicating that she died about a week old. Then the 1689 recorded death date for Dorothy would presumably apply to an unrecorded third Dorothy born sometime after Mary. But in this case, if the second Dorothy died so young, why wasn't the name Dorothy reused for the daughter born in 1673 instead of Mary? So for now, it seems simpler to assume there is some minor mix-up in the dates and just follow the family listing that was given in "Descendants of Thomas Brown of Newbury" in Essex Antiquarian, p. 12:120.
