in Nov. 1898, Donald, 21 a typewriter salesman enlisted in the US Army in Buffalo NY for the Spanish American War. He held the rank of Private, and had a Honorable Discharge three years later in November 1901. His character is recorDed as excellent. per the Orillia Packet. 5 December , 1901--"Mr. Donald McDonald (sic) is visiting his mother, Mrs. Annie McDonald of Atherley. Mr. McDonald is an Orillia boy, his father having been a former proprietor of the Queen's Hotel. He has just completrd a term of Service in the American Army, having taken part in the Cuban campaign , and later been stationed in Alaska." March 1932 border crossing records indicate he was living in Calgary, he was to visit Spokane Washington . In 1936 he crossed the border twice, he was living in Vancouver, an oil operator. References
