    ELVASTON, Ill. - Donald L. "Shorty" Marshall, 85, of Elvaston, Ill., died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in the Hancock County Nursing Home.

    He was born on Sept. 28, 1914, in Keokuk, the son of Fred L. and Wilma Roasa Marshall and his stepmother, Edna M. Marshall. He married Edna A. Nichols on Jan. 30, 1935, in Elvaston. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1980.

    Survivors include: a daughter, Sonja Mabry and her husband, Don, of Carthage, Ill.; a son, Steve Marshall and his wife, Jackie, of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Debbie (Rex) Johnson, Carolyn (Tim) Wright, Melissa Mabry, Jennie (Robert) Califf and Jeremy Marshall; two stepgrandchildren, Dustin Markey and Melissa Snyder; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

    He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lowell and a grandson, Tony Marshall.

    He was a lifelong resident of Elvaston and Hamilton and was a retired farmer. For 30 years he has spent his winters in Arizona.

    Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage, with Pastor Joe Little officiating.

    Burial will be in the Elvaston Cemetery.

    Visitation is today with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Memorials in his name may be made to the Denver Christian Church or the Elvaston Presbyterian Church.
