Facts and Events
Devereaux Jarrett Claiborne Jr. also was in Brunswick County, Virginia, 1840-1860. No other record records Devereaux Jarrett as a son of George Ravenscroft Claiborne except for listing in Taylors of Tabernacle (the Taylors intermarried frequently with the Claibornes in west Tennessee). No Devereaux J. Claiborne exists on any census, court record, or marriage record in Tennessee. The 1840 Brunswick County, Virginia, census has "D. J. Claiborne Jr.," age 30-40, with wife 20-30, one son 5-10, two daughters under 5, and one daughter 5-10. But this Devereaux Jarrett Claiborne is actually the son of George Ravenscroft Claiborne and returned to Brunswick County, Virginia. He used "Junior" after his name to distinguish him from his uncle, Devereaux J. Claiborne, of the same county. There is also a CSA enlistment record for Devereaux Jarrett Claiborne in 1861 which gives his residence as Tennessee. References
