TOWNSEND, Detmer Douglas Age 63, of Middletown, Ohio passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Middletown Regional Hospital after fighting a four year battle with cancer. He was born September 20, 1943 in Middletown and lived here all his life. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a Roller in the Hotstrip at A K Steel where he was employed for 30 years, retiring in 1997. During the same time, and continuing after retirement, he had his own wood working business called Hand Crafted By Detmer. He was a member of Elk's Lodge #257, serving as a former Trustee, a member of Moose Lodge #501, American Legion Post 218, and Orioles Nest #193. He was preceded in death by parents: Omer and Mazie (Swartz) Townsend. He is survived by 4 sons: Lance Townsend and Cissy Rollins � Franklin, Ohio, Brad Townsend � Miamisburg, Ohio, Scott Singer � Dayton, Ohio, Mike Singer � Middletown, Ohio; 8 grandchildren: Brittany, Zack, Jessica, Michael, Jacob, Ashley, Brittany and Nick; 2 brothers: Jim Townsend � Corona, California, Bud Townsend � Trenton, Ohio. Visitation will be Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 5 to 7p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, with services by Elk's Lodge 257 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, with military services by American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
