Deronda Moore Holmes, 96, of Bloomfield, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday Jan. 7, 2009 at Lyons Health & Living Center in Lyons. Born June 30, 1912 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Macon Cleveland and Essa (Swayze) Moore.
Deronda was a homemaker and a bookkeeper, keeping books for Kuhlenschmidt, John Deere, and Chrysler Products in Newberry. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Do Better Club (Purdue), Newberry Christian Church where she served as secretary-treasurer and communion steward. She was also a member of the Newberry Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was the secretary-treasurer of the Newberry Cemetery association.
Surviving relatives include two sons John A. Holmes and Joseph C. Holmes both of Bloomfield, one daughter Doneva L. Fines of Switz City, four grandchildren Larry L. Fines of Switz City, Sarrah E. Holmes of Bloomfield, Jordan B. Holmes of Bloomfield, and Joshua D. Holmes of Bloomfield, and two great grandchildren Heather D. Fines and Olivia Shaye Fines both of Switz City.
Deronda was preceded in death by her husband Max Holmes March of 1979, a brother Robert D. Moore (former mayor of Bicknell) and one sister Geneva Hastings, and half-brother Richard D. Edmondson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8 and after 1 p.m. on Friday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Brother Bob Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Newberry Cemetery.
