David Thompson and Sarah Gordon, an Irish lad and lass, were born in the old country—he in 1774 and she in 1780. Six years after their wedding feast they began an eighteen years residence in Alleghany county, Pennsylvania. The vicinity of New Concord, Muskingum county, then became their abiding place, until 1817, when their final settlement was made in Adams township. In 1847 she passed away and in 1859 he joined the “great majority.” Their children are: Jane, Sarah, David Glenn,,and Andrew. Andrew was born in Pennsylvania in 1809, and married Nancy, daughter of Silas and Elizabeth Burt, in 1833. She was born in 1813. They took charge of the homestead farm until 1840, and then moved to Coshocton county. In 1847 they returned and purchased the homestead, and Mrs. Thompson died there in 1881. The children were: Silas, David, Elizabeth Jane, wife of Joseph Scott, and Sarah Margaret, wife of John B. Scott; Mary Ann, wife of Charles Draper; Nancy Ellen, wife of James Bell; Amanda Walker, wife of John Trace; and George Mitchell.
