David Procter's origins have yet to be established. If the age given when he died was correct, then he was born around 1746. His first confirmed sighting is on 24th October 1769, when he married Elizabeth Mayfield at Kirkby la Thorpe in Lincolnshire. They went on to have seven children baptised at Kirkby la Thorpe between 1770 and 1780.

David's wife Elizabeth died in 1783. She was said to be 32 years old.

Just over three months later, on 2nd February 1784, David married again. His second wife was Elizabeth Allen, formerly Preston.

David and Elizabeth went on to have another four children baptised at Kirkby la Thorpe between 1785 and 1788, including twins in 1788. Two of these children also died young, including one of the twins. The twins' baptism records that they were paupers.

Elizabeth died in 1815, aged 69.

Three months after her death, David married for a third time. His third wife was a widow called Susannah Kirton, whose maiden name has yet to be established.

Towards the end of his life, David lived as a bedesman (likely indicating that he was receiving a pension or living in an almshouse) in the nearby town of Sleaford. Susannah died in January 1826, when she was said to be 57 years old. David only survived her by a couple of weeks. He died at Sleaford on 1st February 1826. He was said to be 79 years old. He was buried back at Kirkby la Thorpe.
