David NORTON, Sr. (son of Christopher NORTON & Mary EMMERSON) was born in Mar 1763 in Fluvanna County, VA. He died in 1814 in Pendleton County, KY. David was a "planter."

He served in the Revolutionary War at age 17 on 18 May 1780 for 1 year and 6 months as a substitute for another man that lived in Amherst County, VA. He was on the tax rolls of Washington, VA in 1782. He was single and owned 5 horses and 4 cows. He probably used the horses to take people from Virginia to Kentucky through the Cumberland gap (the gap's trail was too narrow for wagons during this period).

David married Sophia Malissa FANCHER, daughter of David FANCHER and Hanna QUACKENBUSH about 1783 in Washington, VA. Sophia was born about 1764 in Virginia. She died in 1823 in Grant, KY.

David & Sophia had the following children.

Samuel NORTON was born about 1785 in Sevier County, TN. He died about 1819 in Bourbon County, KY. He is probably a twin with John N. Norton (born same year). Samuel married Nancy JONES about 1808 in Bourbon County, KY. She was born about 1790 and died after 1850 in Nicholas County, KY.
