    "David (Field), [born] (Deerfield) Jan. 4, 1712. … 13, David, s. of Samuel (9), b. 1712; lived on lot No. 35, where he had a store and was many years in trade; as early as 1747 he was engaged in the fur trade with the Mohawks; was a sol. in the Indian wars and col. of the Northern Hampshire regt., which office he resigned Feb., 1778, on account of his age. He was an ardent Whig and chairman of the Committee of Correspondence and Safety; was delegate to the Provincial Congress at Cambridge, May, 1775, and delegate to the Constitutional Convention, 1779-80; was very prominent and very useful in town affairs; in consequence of many sacrifices and losses during the war, his affairs became involved and in 1787 one of his creditors, William Hyslop, obtained a judgment against him and his sons for £1236; his whole estate consisting of several homesteads and 600 acres of land passed into other hands; he d. Apr. 19, 1792. He m. 1741, Thankful, dau. Thos. Taylor, and prob. wid. of Oliver Doolittle; there are two traditions relating to this marriage; both agree in saying that David Field and Oliver Doolittle were both suitors for the hand of Thankful, and that the minister's son was the favored one; one says she changed her mind and married Field—the other that she m. Doolittle and soon became a wid.; no evidence has been found to settle the question; she d. Mar. 26, 1803."

    It should be noted that one of their sons was named Oliver, an uncommon baptismal name during this period.
