Burtt, David L. (deceased), was born in New Jersey, and, at an early da' removed to Ithaca. He acquired his early education at the district schools, and finished it under Prof. Burt at the Ithaca Academy. He then adopted the profession of teacher, and taught school for a period of thirty five years, fifteen years of which was in Ithaca, at the same time getting relaxation and recreation in carrying on a farm. He was a Democrat in politics, and held the office of supervisor for a number of years. At the age of forty one he married Frances M. Shangle, who now survives him, and by whom he had three children, two sons and one daughter. Of the sons, one, John J., is now engaged in the furniture business at Lockport, N. Y.; the other son Hugh, and daughter remaining at the home farm. For six years our subject was principal of the Fall Creek school, and afterwards was connected with the Lancasterian school. Mr. Burtt was known throughout the country as an active, energetic man of unimpeachable integrity. He died June 1, 1893. References
