American Falls Obituary Dick Barrett Services Held David Hopkins (Dick) Barrett, age 85, American Falls, passed away Thursday, April 29, at Power County Hospital following a long illness. He was born May 27, 1885 in Springtown, Arkansa, a son of George Thomas and Louisa Tennessee Guthrie Barrett. He moved to Oklahoma at the age of 12, then later to Colorado, and Tacoma, Wash., where he worked for the railroad. He worked as a farm laborer in Oregon, then came to Idaho in 1917, where he homsteaded in the Pingree area. He later came to American Falls and worked on the construction of the dam, then farmed until a few years ago, when he retired. He married Johanna Marie Christensen September 27, 1930 in Pocatello. His hobbies were horses and hunting. He also enjoued reading all of his life, especially in later years. Survivors include his wife, a step-daughter, Elsie Schritter, and two sons, Ralph and George all of American Falls; two daughters, Mrs. V.H. McConnell (Mary), Oxbow, Oregon, and Mrs. Frank (Lois) Goebel, Ashton, Idaho; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 1, at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church in American Falls with Rev Edward Stubbs officiating. Burial was in Fallsview cemetary. Casket bearers were Marvin Schritter, Melvin Schritter, Ben Henderson, Darrel Schumacher, Dennis Schumacher and Steven Andersen. Songs were "Abide With Me" by Judith Barrett and "Rock of Ages" by Jerry New. References
