  1.   Family records of John Wesley Ramsey (1840-1901).

Ramsey family history recorded John Ramsey, son of William and Nancy (Boyd) Ramsey, Sr. married his first cousin, Margaret Johnston, a daughter of John Johnston of Mecklenburg Co., NC. Johnston family history recorded in error that the given name of John Johnston's Ramsey wife was "Margaret", being confused with the sister, Margaret/Peggy Ramsey, who married David Rodgers of Mecklenburg Co., NC. David and Margaret would also go to Rutherford Co., TN. Johnston family history further recorded that following the birth of John Johnston and his wife's second child the wife died. Note: John Johnston, father of Margaret Johnston who married John Ramsey, was an adjoining land owner with William Ramsey, Sr. on the Gum Branch of Long Creek, Mecklenburg Co., NC. William Ramsey, Sr.'s brother-in-law, John Boyd, conveyed land to William Ramsey and John Johnston on the Gum Branch.

    19:41-42, August 1818.

In August of 1818, the Johnston family heirs met together in Mecklenburg Co., NC under an agreement to transfer two separate deeds on the Gum Branch to the children of William Johnston, deceased, and which children were the grandchildren of John Johnston, deceased. The named children of William Johnston are John Johnston and Peggy Ramsey Johnston. The two deeds also named the surviving heirs of the grandfather, John Johnston, as Thomas J. Johnston, Wm. Jameson in right of his wife, Philip Johnston in right of his wife, and John Ramsey, in right of his wife. Note: John Ramsey, son of William and Nancy (Boyd) Ramsey, married Margaret Johnston, daughter of John Johnston.

    Manuscript, 1958.

The 1958 Marguerite Parrish manuscript included Bible records in possession of a descendant of Nancy Johnston Lawing Scott, daughter of John Johnston, and obtained by Mr. Ernest Johnston of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. These records include the marriage of John Johnston in 1780 to (Miss) Ramsey, who died 1783-86 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina after the birth of their second child, William Johnston; that their first child, Margaret Johnston, married her fist cousin, John Ramsey. See also Ramsey family records which recorded that John Ramsey, son of William and Nancy (Boyd) Ramsey, married his first cousin, Margaret Johnston.
