"Daniel1 Longbottom was admitted an inhabitant of Newent, a 'society' of Norwich, Connecticut in 1692 and was one of the farmers who were assigned land there at that time. There seems to be no previous information about him, but it is assumed that he was son of James Longbottom of Newport and Westerly, Rhode Island. … He married in Norwich on Feb. 15, 1692 Elizabeth Lamb, the daughter of John and Ann Lamb of Groton, Ct. … He died on Nov. 18, 1732 and she on May 22, 1747. It is believed that they are buried in Old Kingsman Cemetery on the west side of Norwich. The house in which Daniel Longbottom and his family lived was situated not far from the old brick school which stood in the old part of town known as Newent on a section of the road which was by-passed when the road from Canterbury to Newent was straightened. It has been gone for many years. In 1716 he became a member of the First Congregational Church of Norwich when he and his six younger children were baptized on September 14th of that year. In 1718 he was one of the petitioners for the establishment of the Newent Church which was organized on Dec. 10, 1723. On Feb. 28, 1725 both he and his wife Elizabeth were admitted members. Little else is known about him except that he was chosen Town Surveyor in 1702."
