Facts and Events
Daniel's birth at Stone Creek in 1839 is an interesting event. One, because 1839 was very early in the community's history, so he must have been one of the early births in Jefferson Township. Therefore, his parents must have lived there, but no data has been found. Another aspect is the town didn't actually exist until circa 1849, and was then named "Philipsburg" for the next fifty or so, years. It was only in the 1900s that it was renamed Stone Creek. It was -and remains - the only town in the whole township. The rest of the township is rural, consisting mostly of farms. The Kohler family may have originated from the Kingdom of Württemburg, along the Rhine River. There were a number of families in Jefferson Township from there. In this same area, especially over in Auburn Township, there were many of Swiss origin. For the purposes of this compiler's research, the focus in the data presented is upon the immigrants who came from the small villages from around WALDGREHWEILER in the Palatinate. They especially settled in Jefferson Township. The first of these seems to have been Adam Regula in 1834. The Regula family became one of the more prominent families in the area, and are related to the Kohler Family. Unlike many other Palatines, none of the Regula descendants seems to have migrated on to Wabash County, Indiana. "White Creek" has at least 6 members of the KOHLER Family, associated with Stone Creek, Ohio; in his Legacy Computer Program. Other related surnames are: Beitzel, Blind, Bucher, Conrad, Deich, Ellwood, Gintz, Goehler, Hanenkrat, Hoffman (6), Isenogle, Lorenz (2), Marburger (3), Maurer, Mizer (4), Mohr (2), Pretorius (3), Rausch (7), Regula (11), Rufenacht, Schroeder (2), Schultz, Stoller (5), Wasem (3), Winkler, and Zimmer. --White Creek 13:05, 9 August 2012 (EDT) Image Gallery
