A Brief Genealogical and Biographical History of Arthur, Henry, and John Howland And their Descendants of the United States and Canada By Franklyn Howland First Edition New Bedford, Mass: Published by the Author 1885 Page 112 Daniel 5 (Daniel 4, Daniel 3, Zoeth 2, Henry 1) born 7, 12, 1724, in Tiverton, R. I. Says Newport (R. I.) F. R.:"Daniel, son of Daniel and Judith, and Philadelphia, dau. of Joseph and Ruth Brownell, of Portsmouth, where married 10 mo, 12th , 1744," Philadelphia died 4, 5, 1810, aged 83 yrs. 5 mos. 9 days. The moved to East Greenwich, R. I., in 1749, so that but two of their children were born in Portsmouth. Daniel writes in his diary: March the 23, 1749 it being the 5th day of the Week we put our Goods on bord a Boat in Order to move to East Greenwich from Portsmouth, came away next Morning and arrived at Updikes Newton [Wickford] just before Night, after a tedious passage and a very hard gale of Wind; The next day carted our Goods and got into our new house. This new house was the one now owned and occupied by John Kenyon. This Daniel Howland was born at Tiverton, R. I., December 7, 1724. On the death of his father, in 1749, he came into possession of the farm at East Greenwich, which has since remained in the possession of the family. He married, October 12, 1744, Philadelphia Brownell, daughter of Joseph and Ruth Brownell, of Portsmouth, R. I., and the following year moved to the East Greenwich farm where Mrs. Howland died in April, 1810, aged eighty-three years, five months, nine days. ▼References
