  3. Source:Hudson, Charles. History of the Town of Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts : From Its First Settlement in 1657 to 1861; with a Brief Sketch, p. 373, shows David Goodenow, s/o Samuel, b. 1678, m. 1722 Dinah Fay, and David Goodenow, s/o Samuel Jr., b. 1704, m. 1746 Martha Bannister. This is incorrect. According to the marriage record, and the births of their children, Martha Bannister married a Daniel Goodenow. Both alleged marriages make the husbands somewhat old for a first marriage and are incorrect. The will of Samuel Sr. (Middlesex Probate 9377) makes no mention of a son David, and it appears the David b. 1678 d. young. It was the David b. 1704 that married Dinah Fay. That David was named as a grandson in Samuel Sr.'s will, as his father Samuel Jr. had died before the writing of the will. And that David also had a son Daniel 1725, who was the person that married 1746 Martha Bannister.
