    "7. Daniel2 Gates (George1), born May 4, 1680, … D. Williams Patterson, or more likely Samuel W. Balch who edited his work, said that Daniel married, first, Elizabeth whose surname was unknown, citing Mrs. Hannah Gates Andrews as the source of this information. However, Frederick Taylor Gates and Mary Walton Ferris mentioned only his marriage to Rebecca Dutton. … Daniel Gates was the first member and one of the first deacons of the Second Congregational Church and Ecclesiastical Society in Millington, East Haddam … and was frequently elected to office in the town. He was a selectman in 1729 and 1739 and a leather sealer in 1740. … he died there, November 24, 1761, aged eighty-one years."
