  • 1678 - fled to SC where he had received a grant for 3000 acres from King Charles II
  • 1681 - named first Landgrave by the Lords Proprietors of the Carolinas
  • 1715 - his Newington plantation was burned to the ground in the Yamassee Indian War
  • 1730 grandson Col. Joseph Blake built a brick mansion on the site
