    Dale C. Wellman

    Services for Dale C. Wellman, 74, of Pella. who died March 21, 1988 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, were held March 25 in the Newman Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa, with the Rev. Don Mars of the First Federated Church of Des Moines officiating. Interment was in the Bellefountaine Cemetery at Tracy with graveside military rites accorded by the American Legion, Pella.

    Mr. Wellman was born Feb. 23, 1914 at Albia, the son of Samuel and Agnes Davis Wellman.

    He graduated from Albia High School and later from the Albia Junior College. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. On July 31, 1954 he was united in marriage to Josephine Sarah Daw Russell at Clinton. From 1954 until the early 1970s he was with the United States Corps of Engineers and had lived in Pella since 1961. He was a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Granville, Harold and Glen Wellman; and two sisters, Ethel Wellman and Ruth Miletich

    He is survived by his wife, Josephine Wellman of Pella; one son, Jackie Dale Wellman of Albia; one stepson, Lowell James Russel of Cedar Rapids; two stepdaughters, Sarah Jane Bazata of Fox Lake, 111. and Betty June Sutter of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

    A memorial has been established to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Knoxville.
