"9. Cornelius Webb, b. ab. 1696, d. Jan. 7, 1777, ae. over 80 yrs., Springfield; m. Dec. 3, 1719, Springfield, Mary Osband, b. May 8, 1699, Enfield, Ct., d. Feb. 24, 1763, Springfield, dau. of Samuel and Sarah (Patch) Osborn. Cornelius Webb was a carpenter and wheelwright and lived in that part of Springfield which later became Wilbraham. On May 3, 1727, he was before the court on account of a debt due John Pynchon. On Sept. 30, 1728, he sold for £24 six acres in Springfield 'being the land I now live on, with house on it,' together with ten acres elsewhere. On Sept. 2, 1734, he was before the court 'for absenting himself from public worship.' On June 23, 1736, a committee of the Gen. Court listed him as a descendant of 'ye soldiers yt were in ye Falls Fight under Capt. Turner' on May 18, 1676. On Feb. 16, 1737/8, 'Cornelius Webb of Springfield, wheelwright, eldest son of John Webb, late of Springfield, deceased, who was eldest son of John Webb, late of Northampton, deceased' sold one whole right of land in Falls Fight Township, lately granted to officers and soldiers in Falls Fight. He was in court again on Nov. 13, 1750 and Feb. 12, 1754 because of debts owed. On Nov. 12, 1771, the road from Springfield eastward ran past Cornelius Webb's old chimney."
