Obituary

AGED RESIDENT DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS -- Mrs. C. VanZanten, 75, Dies At Home On Elliott St. Saturday Evening; Funeral Wednesday From the Home and Church- Was Woman of Prominence.

  Mrs. Cornelia VanZanten, aged 75 years and one month, wife of C. VanZanten, one of the oldest of the city's Holland residents, passed away at the home, 520 Elliott street Saturday evening shortly after eight o'clock, death following an illness of many months.  The decedent leaves three children of a former marriage; Rev. Lambertus Veltkamp of Franklin street church of Grand Rapids; Edward Veltkamp of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Anna Flasman of Roseland, Chicago.
  The funeral will be held from the home, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and from the First Christian Reformed church at two o'clock, with the Rev. James Bruinooge in charge.
  Mrs. Cornelia VanZaaten was born in Amsterdam, Holland and lived there with her parents until 11 years of age. Then she removed to Province, Gronengen, and after some years was married.  The first husband was an instructor in the Christian schools.  Later he received a call to a post in Grand Rapids, and there the family resided for a few years.  Later they again removed to Chicago.  Mr. and Mrs. Veltkamp visited in Grand Haven many times and became well known among friends here.
  Eleven years ago Mr. Veltkamp died and Mrs. Veltkamp continued to reside with her aged mother in Grand Rapids.  Three years later she was married to Mr. VanZanten of this city and they have since that time resided at their Elliott street address.
  The deceased was one of a prominent family in the Netherlands and throughout her life both there and in the United States, she has held a position of prominence among her various circles of friends.
