About Col. Jesse Hinkle From: "The Henckel Genealogy 1668-1728" "Jesse Hinkle, served as Captain of a Militia Company in the 46th Virginia Regiment in the war of 1812-1814. He was mustered out Mar 5, 1815. Dr Edmund Isaac Hinkle, a descendant, writes, the rank of Colonel was accorded Jesse Hinkle for service in the war with Mexico in 1847-48. Colonel Hinkle was prominently identified with the history of Pendleton County. He was a member of the Virg. Assembly 1816 to 1818 inclusive. Sheriff of the County 1822 to 1824 inclusive; and served as Justice of the Peace for several years. "He was associated in operation of the plantation of Catherine Harper who was apparently a widow with a large family said to number about eleven children. These children were known as Harpers and applied for marriage bonds under that name
