Obituary

Clifford Harvey (Monk) Grimm, 89, of 137 Beaver av., New Philadelphia, died Thursday night of a heart condition in Valley Manor Pavilion where he had resided the last six months. He retired in 1956 from the former Marsh Wall Tile at Dover.

Born at New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Elmer and Alma Pugh Grimm, whose ancestors were among the early settlers of Old Town Valley. He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church; served on the gas rationing board during World War II and had been a past president of many local organizations including the council of the American Federation of Laborers' Union, United Paper Makers and Paper Workers Local No. 785 and York township school board.

Surviving are his widow, the former Minnie E. Ashbaugh, to whom he would have been married 64 years Feb. 1; two sons and a daughter, Charles W. and Dale E. of New Philadelphia and Mrs. Clarence (Betty) Sanner of Columbus; four grandchildren;, and three great-grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Private services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Rev. Terrence Biglow officiating. Burial will be Fair Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorial contributions to the United Health Foundation.

    In phone conversation, Joe Sr. talked about living in Minnie and Monk's attic apartment after he returned from Korea. Neighbor, Miss Weber, lived across the street. Miss Weber, Joe & Helen used to watch TV with Minnie & Monk in their living room. Miss Weber's house caught fire and Joe was able to pull her out of house.
