One source claims Clarissa married Bicknell Cole. However, I find no evidence other than the one secondary source listed below. On the other hand, see Federal Census records on this page. Clarissa was only 23 years old when she married Ammi Alford in October 1831. Seems unlikely she married and raised 4 children in Indiana before her marriage to Ammi!
Here is the record with Cole as husband:
“CLARISSA ... b. in Leicester, Vt., Oct. 30, m. as second wife, Bicknell Cole of Noblesville, Ind. (Check history of this town. It did not exist until 1818. This was all Indian territory in 1800.) Children: Henry Cole, Warren Cole, Helen Cole, Sophronia Cole.”
Book Title: Genealogy of the Descendants of John White of Wenham and Lancaster, Massachusetts : 1638-1900 : in two volumes, page 550
There is no doubt that Clarissa White is the name of Ammi Alford’s 2nd wife. She made a formal claim for Ammi’s War of 1812 pension, and her maiden name is included in the scan of the document in government archives--Clarissa White: FamilySearch -- [5]. It also looks certain that Clarissa White Alford was living in the household of her daughter Phoebe Alford Dutton in the 1871 and 1881 Canada census. See those census records below. In addition it looks certain that Phoebe Alford is a daughter of Ammi Alford and Clarissa White. See Phoebe's birth record: FamilySearch [6] The same is true given the original birth records we have with several of their other children: Alonzo, Ammi Jr, Reuben, and Clara.
