Clarence A. Sowers, 98, of Mattoon, formerly of Decatur, died 2:10 a.m. Sunday (July 9, 1989) in Odd Fellow Rebekah Home, Mattoon.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Tabernacle Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Stree Funeral Home with 8:30 p.m. Odd Fellow services and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Sowers was born in Gila, son of Benjamin Franklin and Mollie Sowers. He was a retired building contractor, member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, life member of Decatur Odd Fellows Lodge 65, life member of Eagles Lodge 507, member of Decatur Encampment 37, Decatur Canton 19, Starlight Rebekah Lodge 767 and a 65-year member of Modern Woodsmen of America. He married Anna Gertrude Cook in 1910. She died in 1949. He married Elsie Hart in 1950. She died in 1972.
Surviving are his daughters, Jennie Cutshall and Evelyn Lamb, both of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Thelma Fox of Fowler, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren. One son, one daughter and five brothers preceded him in death.
