Claiborne Maddox, the eldest son of Jacob and Susannah, was born on October 25, 1758 in Goochland County, Virginia. He married Mary Morrow, who was born in 1758, and died in 1825. Claiborne died on November 27, 1822 in Greene County, Georgia. In 1777, Claiborne was listed as a sergeant in Major Clark's Company of the 4th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel James Wood. In 1778 he was listed as a sergeant in Captain Thomas Bowyer's Company of the 8th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel James Wood. He was stationed at Valley Forge, Paramus, White Plains, Camp Robinsons Farm and Camp Middle Brook. In 1779 Claiborne Maddox was listed as a sergeant and in Camp Middle Brook. For his service he received a land grant (#4186) of 200 acres.
Claiborne Maddox and Mary Morrow had five children including Anthony W. Maddox, born about 1785 in Goochland County, Virginia. Anthony married Margaret Jewel in 1810.
